Respond to a professional blogger at a major news site:
I had a look at a few of the bloggers on news.com.au here. I didn't really feel qualified to comment on the more political issues some of these bloggers are discussing. I found this guy's blog pretty interesting, he writes articles on everyday politics and current events.
What is Barak Obama up to today?
I googled 'Barack Obama' and checked out today's news stories regarding his activities. He has been talking to leaders around the world about the current situation in Egypt, and yesterday asked the Egyptian to not use force against peaceful protesters. Source
Find out who your local, state and federal representatives are:
This is kind of lame, but I am not familiar with how the government is structured in terms of representatives for different areas. I know that my local member is Andrew Fraser, Labor member for Mt Coot-tha. But I don't know who my state or federal would be. I think my state would be Terese Gambaro, the Member for Brisbane. Or would she be counted as federal??
Look up the Queensland or Australian hansard to find the last time your local member spoke in parliament. Let your local member know what you think about their last speech.
I looked up Andrew Fraser's last speech on his website. It was in October 2007. I find it slightly worrying that his last speech was over 2 years ago. It was on economics and I didn't really understand it, but I believe was about Queensland having a strong growth capacity. I could contact him via his website if I felt so inclined, but seeing as he has not spoken recently on current issues, I feel there would be no point (unless it was to point this out to him). http://www.andrewfrasermp.com/
Overall I found it pretty easy to find websites where I could express a political opinion or get into touch with a politician or journalist. However my lack of political knowledge made it difficult for me to actually take any action.
